  • What is wrong with my Nero kale?

Well, here I go again. Overwintering Nero kale doing exactly the same as ever. Tapering stems towards the base and tiny weeny leaves getting smaller and smaller. As you can see the smaller one has shriveled and gone dry.

The ground has had chicken manure and blood fish bone over time here and there so for the life of me I do not k ow what has happened. I will just have to give up growing this crop sadly. Even protected from getting root fly with colars.

Looks like the one at the back is fine, and will start growing strongly again when the weather improves a bit.

Have you tried digging any out to see what the roots look like ?

It's a biannual and it's getting ready to flower. All is not lost, be a bit patient and where all the old leaves have fallen off there will be new growth. The leaves will be small but tender and if they show signs of flower buds eat then like PSB.

Manure, as much as you can get/afford.
Feed the soil, not the plants.

No, they have colars around them so it won't be root fly. I checked all through the season.

The soil looks like it has a lot of compost in Marb...or it might just be the picture. A possible cause could be vine weevil

The one at the back looks all right, Marb. Beautiful green. I like Roitelet's answer... Hope it works out for you.
