  • Manure what's the best way to use it.

I have some bins of mature manure (that one for VCs change a letter) so was wondering what would be the best way to use it I won't be digging it in so was thinking of spreading cardboard over the soil then covering it with the manure, or would I be better spreading the manure on the soil and covering that with the cardboard, then covering this with some compost, the compost is simply to keep the cardboard in place
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Either works, I tend to put cardboard under but a word of caution. If you plan to plant anything that slugs love, completely bury the cardboard under several inches or omit it from some/those beds. Last year a had a lovely row of spuds that straddles a double dug and no dig bed (with cardboard). The no dig was wonderfully weed free but the slugs decimated the tubers whereas the traditional double dug bed had fantastic production. For other crops being weed free and using cardboard is the way to go. If you'd laid it all out before winter any remaining cardboard wouldn't be an issue because it would have broken down.
