This extract is from a recent post about chillies that should do okay outside:

..Apache, Super, Feugo, and Hot Thai spring to mind as they all stay fairly compact. Basket of Fire is another good one plus it'll also work in a hanging basket (not sure if that's connected to it's name).
Or there are dwarf plants specifically suited for windowsills indoors, e.g. Demon Red

Fish is a great choice with dual appeal for beauty and culinary so definitely agree with you there
