So I have been given some goats beard seeds which appears to be salsify by another name. I'm aware there are at least two types (yellow and purple) and I think both are edible but please if I'm wrong correct me.
I want to try and propagate these for seed and I'm aware they're biennial so I have a plan. Please can someone cast an eye and tell me if I'm bonkers.
I'm growing some carrots in v sandy soil in potato sacks (I have heavy clay and wanted to try carrots so did this last year as an experiment and it worked so I'm doing more this year). I think as roots salsify want similar things to carrots so as I'm trying to propagate carrots this year so I thought I'd put some salsify in with my carrot crop (to grow to eat to check we like it) and also put some in with my carrots I'm planting for seed (ie planting up a bag or two not to harvest but to leave to over winter and allow to flower).
Should this work?
