Only the week or so before I'd trimmed off all the poor leaves damaged by the "real" winter to just leave good condition leaves and buds - they were responding beautifully, new leaf growth and flowers galore. Then the Beast struck :-(

They should recover - primroses are fairly tough plants. You probably notice that most of the plants that have been damaged or are unhappy are big leaved. The combination of frost and wind is not good for big leaves as the wind sucks the water out of them as well as shredding them, and they can't replace the water until the ground defrosts. But hardy plants are built to cope with this - if they couldn't they wouldn't be hardy. Its not great but it probably won't be fatal (although obviously there are limits).
Winter may not be over yet - it is only early March. We have been spoiled with warm winters in recent years, but this winter is different and remember, it is more common to have snow at Easter than at Christmas.A life is like a garden.
