  • beetroot and rotation

Hello, a quick couple of questions on beetroot

    1) Is there any particular pest-based reason for rotation (like Brassica and clubroot, carrot and carrot fly etc)
    2) is there any reason I can't plant it next to my asparagus (not so close it interferes with the asparagus root)

    thanks

    Mike
This year's rotation is proving tricky as I didn't really formalise my beds properly until last year, so everywhere seems to have had something in at some point.

As long as the soil is well fed (fresh compost, FBB etc.) it will produce beetroot a second year and possibly a third. Rotation is sensible but not an absolute and usually you can get away with doubling up two years if you've not had a problem in year one.

      Excellent!
(I'm trying to be really good this year as the beds are now set up, so this is kind of the baseline going forward. And I've moved the spuds into my new plot so I should have the space.)
