Parsnip seed viability confusion.

Seeds which are sealed in foil packets, packed dry, will keep much longer than packets that have been opened. It may be that the date on the back is the last date you should sow from an unopened packet. Many seed packets have a note on them saying that once the foil is opened normal ageing of the seed will begin.
I have successfully grown parsnips from a packet opened the previous year, with about 50% germination, but I wouldn't want to keep the seeds any longer than that.A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP. - Leonard Nimoy

Damn, beaten to it - lucky I checked all posts first ;-)
I've got some left from last year sown just over two weeks ago in kitchen roll tubes of compost, on a heated mat under a grow light - almost all of them are up already, far more than came up in the ground or a dustbin last year and far quicker.
