    Yes, an early start is a good idea if you can. However you don't need early varieties for the UK. That's a myth. There is plently of time in a UK summer to grow all but the longest season peppers. I had Assam peppers this year planted indoors in Feb and were ripe by early August.

    Over-wintering is a good idea for some varieties as they often fruit better in the second year. There is a guide for overwintering here: http://www.thechileman.org/guide_overwinter.php
