    If the water in the reservoir is above the level of the matting, water will flow out of the reservoir down to the matting and you will have a flood. As long as the surface of the water is below the level of the matting you should be fine.

      So this is what I've done so far:

      Celery sitting on window sill:



      Propagator raised up:


      I used a random orbital sander to remove the ridges off the bottom of the pots. Still debating whether I should add wicking in some form.

        The compost should act as enough of a wick if it is in contact with the matting. I only use wicks in large pots where the compost struggles to wick to the surface.
