I sow in those deep plastic trays you buy mushrooms in at the supermarket. You have to eat the mushrooms then make drainage holes in the bottom of the tub with a hot skewer.

          Spring Onion advice ?

          Dear Fellow Gardeners

I was wondering if you could help me with Spring Onions

My Spring Onions always end up rather thin, I have tried a few in a large pots and in smallish pot 3 Litres. Alas sadly the result is the same.

Are there any tips to get nice and fat Spring Onions

I presume the period of growth is a month after initial germination?

I look forward to receiving your sage advices

          Warmest Regards and Thank you

Once they are up and growing in a pot transplant the lot in one go to the ground somewhere - feed with fertiliser - sulphate of ammonia will do, if you don't need them to keep - onions like to be well fed.

get the largest container which is convenient and feed regularly with something like Miracle grow - to be any good the salad onions need to grow quickly - I suppose hydroponics might be best but, I know next to nothing about that.

Hi tarragon. I've merged your new thread with last year's as there's advice on there that may help you this year.

Also, I think they take quite a bit longer than a month to get to a reasonable size.
