Potting on plugs

I've just received some chilli plug plants in the post. They've been grown in those little mesh bags (jiffy?)...
So, do I cut the bag and seperate from the soil, or just pot on in the bag? I feel like the bag will discourage the roots from spreading?

I think you are supposed to plant the whole thing, but I have heard people say that the mesh doesn't seem to disintegrate and certainly I have found the same when I have bought pots of plants that have been planted up using plugs in those things. I'd be inclined to remove the mesh as long as the roots are not growing through it enough to be damaged by doing so.

I'd just split the bags and let the plants move them as they need too. I think taking the bags off completely might damage the roots. But I'm just guessing.

I would remove the bag, in the past I have purchased plugs in those bags(usually flower plants) and at the end of the season when cleaning out they still remained and though the plants had grown ok they were no use for storing, so either remove completely or as SP recommends slit them open

If the bags will come off reasonably easily I'd get rid of them, if not I'd use a sharp knife to make cuts in the sides and leave it at that.
