    Do I sense a loophole?

    Sorry to derail us.

My new fork is secondhand and a former storage bin has now become the watery grave of some of my perennial weed roots.

Isn't the technical name for that a dibber?

      I assume it's wood, btw
      Is it a t-shape handle or a d-shape?

      netting post?
shillelagh (for dispatching slugs/mice/gardeners who let their weeds run amok etc)?
poking stick to aerate compost heap?
you could put it to one side (somewhere dry) and see if you break a spade etc handle and re-use?

It is wood with a D-shaped handle. Just shy of a metre long, I imagine. It would be well-suited to holding up netting or poking the compost. (But not gardeners with untidy plots because that would just be masochistic.) I supposed I should bring it home and keep it dry until I decide. Thanks

Ones I can think of offhand are use of large polystyrene containers as cucumber growth vessels and an old long pole which had the end cut off and re-attached to form a 't'. The short piece then had numerous 6 inch nails nailed through to form the best soil rake I've ever used!

My greenhouse is built on top of railway sleepers, which have done a great job.

I built my plot shed from pallets complete with a 3 draw cabinet for bits n' bobs.

I use the uprights from a trampoline net to make an A frame like a swing only wider, I string all my outdoor tomato cordons to that.
I have a pair of sliding doors from a conservatory that I rest together to make an A shaped cloche.
Pallets or thier timbers feature heavily in compost bins and raised beds as well as planters.Click image for larger version

Absolute star - looks bang on - BTW your planters and mine could be clones, though I used plywood off-cuts for the sides on mine.

An alternative nicety. I went to the AGM for my site and received a free packet of leek seeds

My Asparagus bed is mainly a former wardrobe.
An old blanket box cut in half has made the base for my propagator/light box and an outside cold frame base.
2 x glass cabinet doors used in /on light box 3.
Old kitchen unit base cupboards work well for light boxes.
Any sound pallet wood is used ,cut down to 2'' wide giving approx 2x1 for uprightsupports for Enviro mesh cloches etc .

I get these from the local Pizza place and use them to store coffee and shredded paper for making compost, collecting manure and taking recycled MPC from the back garden to the allotment for adding to my Daleks.

I've got a bath in the small polytunnel for growing carrots. Old kitchen double cupboard and work top in my shed. The shed use to be a green house. Only the front of it is glass now.

Last year's blowaway greenhouse (which tore in half right down the middle) became free standing shelves in the garage. We just removed the roof and the poles that joined the two sides, which left us with two sets of shelves.

We've also kept the poles and joints in case they come in handy for anything...

I've got another one to make from the other one but many other jobs fighting for my time.
Our England is a garden, and such gardens are not made
By singing-'Oh how beautiful!" and sitting in the shade,
While better men than we go out and start their working lives
At grubbing weeds from gravel paths with broken dinner-knives. ~ Rudyard Kipling

I'd be a nightmare employee if I worked at the recycling center - I'd be constantly on at people to "Please take that back home and fix it" or "Do you know its really simple to make good compost out of your garden waste ?" or " have you tried taking that to the charity shop ?" - I just can't believe what people will throw away sometimes.

Even so I'd also need a humongous van to bring back things I'd saved from being scrapped.
