My Arran Pilot came up about a week ago out in the open ground.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

I have six potato grow bags with a mix of Maris piper, Sharps express and king Edwards. They have all sprouted and are looking good. This is my first year growing potatoes so it's nice to see.

The compost should feel damp to the touch, but not be so wet that if you grab a handful you can squeeze water out of it. Later it will depend on the weather and the growth they are making how much they need - probably at least 1 watering per day of it gets hot.
Obviously it is desirable that any surplus water does not stay pooled in the bag or container, so when they are growing well if you want to test this, tip in a gallon or so and check the bottom to make sure water is coming out freely - if it isn't, you probably would need to make larger holes.

My spuds are through, need to earth up or fleece them or both.

Did anyone get their spuds from Wilko.
When I got mine a few weeks ago there were three options
            1) Bags of a few spuds for £1
            2) Ready bagged up spuds in a large net bag for £3+ ish
            3) Hoppers of loose spuds, fill a bag for £3+ ish
Option three provided very small bags, like sweetie bags.

I emailed and complained the bags were too small for the price.
            Nothing happened.

I was in Wilko a few days ago and the hoppers were still full of spuds all with very leggy sprouts.
Obviously no one wanted to pay the price for a small bag.

            Anyone noticed this.
            Thanks
            Jimmy

Down the allotment this morning and noticed that the row of Shetland Black is showing. Will have to Earth them up once it stops raining.
Sometimes you just have to scratch that itch and get dirt under your finger nails.
