Cucumbers sown on the 1st of Jan!

Im trying to do this every year to get ahead,

These were sown in a heated propagator and then grown on a windowsill.

No heated greenhouse etc,

Just left out when its warm enough and dragged in every night.

One plant is now above chest height!

Mine have just germinated which is early enough for me especially with my slight obsession with chillies I don't have space in the house.

You don't need to encourage me, Fon, I sowed mine 20th January and have just eaten my first cuke of 2018. Delicious!!

Grew mine the same way as you - heated prop then onto windowsills and out to the GH when warm enough.

Yes no problem.

This is my second year trying this experiment. Unfortunately last year the whole greenhouse got overrun with red spider mite, so I never got a chance to see myself how long they will keep producing.

Thanks very much - that's kind of you.

Its obviously still very much worth it if the plants do tail off cropping, but if they do, then it probably means sowing seeds a few months apart if you are a cucumber addict. :-)

Wow, that is awesome! My cukes have only just germinated, and most years I can't even get them to do that! This year I've had at least ten seeds germinate which is a great result for me lol
I don't have the time to move plants around every day, but if I ever do, I'll remember to sow my cukes early!

Mine were sown 12th Feb in a heated Prop. Then table by the window and last week they went into the greenhouse. Full of flower and about15-18" long/tall.

Best year yet despite the weather. :Lets just hope I don't kill them!

Ok, we have eaten a few cucumbers, but im now facing a problem!

The plant is bigger than the support.

At this point I would normally attach it to the roof of the greenhouse via string, However I cant as Im still bringing the plants inside the house every evening!

When I have this sort of problem with tomato plants I've found it helps to attach another piece of cane to the original support with cable ties. If you allow about a foot overlap between cane and support and put ties near the top of the original cane and the bottom of the new one it is as good as a longer cane.

My cukes have been in the GH full time for several weeks - and I've picked 6 cukes (4 plants).
They're not as tall as yours, Fon.
