  • Growing onions in water

I came across a reference in a post recently about growing onions the same way you grow hyacinths with water I want to give this a try, so what feed would I need to add to the water for onions to grow
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

I've started onion sets off with the base just touching the water - that worked. However, once an onion bulb gets wet it stinks.

Well have set up two sets and one seedling, but might try more, and thanks for that info. VC I will try to avoid the bulb touching the water, and will let you know how I get on with them, I am taking photos to record how it goes

Must be a bit like growing Hyacinthaceae in bulb trainers. They also stink for a different reason (and sneezing fits), but can just see us all with row after row of glass jars with onions growing out of them....

Ohhhh . how about a strip of plastic with holes every 150mm, placed over a gutter with ends on it. Just add water and "seaweed".

Start marketing them... 1m gutter, 10 onions and grow bar....
