  • Mulching pots with white plastic

    Hi,

I planted out some tumbling toms into their final hanging pots/baskets yesterday.

In an attempt to reduce the need for watering and to stop weeds germinating in the pots, I mulched them with circles of plastic cut from old compost bags....

Can anyone see any potential issues doing this?

How are you going to water them?

Just tip water onto the plastic... it'll find it's way down.

I think that's a good idea, I know that some people recommended doing that with exhibition onions as it reflected the light back on to them, well worth a try
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

What do you propose doing with the compost and plastic circles at the end of the season?

Depends how it works out, Snoop. Guess I'll save the circles for next year if I like them... basket compost and spent plants just get chucked in the compost bin.

I like that idea! Especially in the greenhouse, for smaller pots. Snoop, are you expecting it to cause issues with the compost?
