I think if I had to choose just one plant it would have to be my variegated weigela. When I moved here 20 years ago I brought with me 2 cuttings from my previous garden - both were from the weigela and were about 6 inches high. I planted one in the border and kept the other in a pot as a backup in case the planted one died, but it didn't, it is now about 8ft high:

My favourite plant in the garden is a Wisteria that came with the house. Thoroughly mature and lovely, flowers, gives shade, places for wildlife to hide etc etc.

favourite I've grown is probably one of the plants grown from seed from it, or a bay tree. First successful cutting I have taken.

I do like a good oak as well, but they are best seen in the wild

I love Wisteria too. Been in this house 20 years and have been enjoying the lovely flowers every spring, unfortunately it belongs to a neighbour who has just hacked and I mean hacked it down leaving a gaping whole in the fence where it once grew! Oh and also leaving me to pick up a huge load of thick branches which ended up in our garden! Grr This should really be on the rant thread!
