  • Radish argh pesky little #@%&$

I have tried to grow radish over the years but they always get nibbled by slugs/snails.
Never can I get unblemished roots.

This year I am growing carrots in an old dusbin.
Though I would try some radish.
Despite being 3 foot up with fresh compost and a carpet of slug pellets the pesky things are still nibbled.

I've just been looking to see if smearing vaseline round the tub would work. Some anecdotal evidence that it would. I also spotted that Deep Heat deters them too...

        Must be frustrating

This might sound daft but if you've got a hanging basket try sowing your radishes in that.

Trouble is your compost could have them or their eggs in it before you sow a seed, most of my early ones that were sown in the greenhouse were untouched.

Thanks , Copper tape sounds good as does hanging baskets. A bit of over kill perhaps !

Like Cad I have a pot with two bands of copper tape quite close together but I've also been sowing radish in the ground around the pot.
My idea was that the slugs might leave the ones that are defended with the tape and go for the sacrifice radish on the floor.
I'm on my 3rd lot of un slugged radish so it seems to be working for now.
I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work. Thomas A. Edison

I put my pot on the table, slugs can’t get up there it’s quite a smallish pot no need for much compost.

I harvested our first two little radishes today and one had been got at. Luckily I ordered some copper tape last night, have gathered some sheep's wool and will sow in raised pots with vaseline around edge, all in hope of nibble free radishes. They are DD's favourite garden snack.
