  • Peas kaput?

The day after I planted out my sugar snap peas, I found them pecked to bits by something... there were bits of leaf all around on the ground. So I netted them, and assumed they'd recover. Weeks later, they haven't grown an inch... are they done for once they've lost the growing tip perhaps?

That's a terrible shame. I have to say that I've had peas regrow from lower down after damage to the tip. It's possible that whatever did the pecking tugged the plants around so much that the roots have been dislodged so the plant is struggling to re-establish itself.

When you say weeks later, how many weeks? Are there any leaves left at all, and if so are they still green?

Planted out on May the 5th... they're still green, the odd one here and there has put on growth, but I'm guessing the birds must have missed those ones.

Maybe push some more seeds in with your fingers between the roots of the current ones ? - then you have two chances of getting a crop.

Yes, worth a try i suppose! Was hoping for some peas a bit sooner than August...

Bit of a downer I know, but you may still get some regrowth from your original plants and also you can console yourself with the thought of picking fresh peas after a lot of other people have finished their harvest.
