  • How perpetual is perpetual spinach?

I have a row of perpetual spinach grown from seed last year and cropped heavily last year and a bit over the winter. As it was all going to seed last week I cut it off close to the soil but left it in. There are now a few new leaves growing. Is it worth leaving it in or best dig the roots out and start again?

We always let ours overwinter to get a few extra meals but as biennials they run to seed in spring. Once they run to seed the leaves taste bitter (to me) so they're chopped right back a couple of times for adding to the compost and new seed is sown.

I'm in my first season of growing Perpetual Spinach, so thanks for useful information.

It's doing well for me so far. Have cropped plenty of leaves and seen the plants grow back fast

I shared my seed packet with other people on this forum, so hopefully it's doing well for them too.
