Self seeding leeks

I tried to grow some leeks last year with a little success but a lot of faff, as life got away with us with a new baby arriving there have been a few leeks left in that formed flower heads. I've left a couple in the veg bed and planted around them. Now my thinking is I can either try and harvest our own seed for the fun of it or let them self seed over the veg bed and leave them to come up where they'd not get in my way.
Will self seeded leeks likely come up OK and make a useful crop or should I harvest seed and bring them on early in the usual manner before planting out later.

I'd harvested the seed of the best plants - they should be fine to grow from.

I'm working towards a permanent leek bed, with self seeders, bolters from other beds transplanted into it and only harvesting the top of the leeks whilst leaving the roots and bottom couple of inches in situ to regrow.

Not recommended if you're a tidy gardener.

Or you could shave them to create grass to grow on.

If you leave them to die down themselves then they may regrow next year. I've fond a couple more buckets of my 2016 leeks plus I still have a small patch from 2015

This was kind of what I was thinking VC, but I only have the one veg bed, so I'm thinking maybe let it self seed a bit (collect some seed if I can) and like the theory of things tend to grow best where they decide to grow rather than where they're planted leave them to grow on where they want n plant the rest of the veg around them, any that really get in the way will have to be sacrificed or if big enough transplanted.
