And have you sowed them yet?

OK, so it's coming up to the end of June. It won't be long until the onion harvests starts - first winter planted and then the spring planted.

What are you going to follow your onions with (and which sowing with what)? Have you sown the next succession and if not when do you plan to sow it?

I've pulled my over wintered alliums already - they just weren't doing well. I'll brassicas in next week (next day off) sowing some in situ and others from modules.

Not sure what I'm going to fill the spring sown onion bed with yet but I think I'll be following the shallots with quince, mulberry and medlar (I always struggle with crop rotation)

At home I follow mine with buckets. The soil at ground level in my back garden gets no sunshine at all for about 3 months over winter, so I plant things in buckets for extra height and sun, and put them on the soil. They usually contain either brassicas (often calabrese which has had the main head harvested and is producing sideshoots) or late peas.

At the allotment I will be digging the bed thoroughly and removing as much horsetail as I can. I may well then cover it with weed matting and leave it over winter, unless I think of something else to do with it. It depends how long it takes me to dig it really.
