The Beauty of Beans from Flower to Seed.

I'm fascinated by beans - so many different colours of flowers, leaves and stems.
My plan is to take a few photos of some of the beans at all their stages - flower, bean pod and shelled bean.

My favourite french bean, Sonesta. Dwarf, cream flowers and round yellow stringless beans.

Some of those beans are beautiful. I'm not at all knowledgeable when it comes to (most things!)beans .
My runners are a Heinz 57 variety. I've never brought a packet of runner seeds. I was given a lot of self saved seeds when I first started growing. I've just been growing and saving seed from them ever since. Last year I grow some scarlet emperor that I got free with a magazine alongside my usual ones. They made me realise my Heinz 57s really aren't very nice! So I'll be watching this thread with interest because this is my last year of growing carpy beans. No idea where to start choosing a new variety. Definitely only one variety as I want to save seeds from it. I think the very first lot of seeds I was given had already started their journey into Heinz territory as they were saved from 4 varieties (I think) all grown next to each other with no isolation.
I'm growing dwarf French beans sprite for the first time this year. They are great. Such tiny plants with proper sized beans on them. Having trouble getting my head round that!. Anyway they are growing well and producing mostly straight beans. Don't know if it because they are dwarf or because of this fantastic summer we've been having. So will try them again next year. A French bean that doesn't do a very good impression of a curly frie is a bonus.

I'm not growing runners this year, only CFBs because there are less worries about cross pollination. Having said that, most of these beans are the last in a packet and I only have one or two of each so I won't be able to eat and save from them. I've already lost the labels on some.
I'm recording them here so that I can remember them.

For runners, I grow St George, from a recommendation on here. Fabulous plants, heavy cropper, lovely flavour. Created the famous, "Why didn't you pick any of my beans while I was on holiday? There are tons on there now!" "What do you mean, I picked two carrier bags' full three days ago?!" incident.

I think we had about 4 carrier bags full (I do mean full) off 12 or so plants last year. I'm only growing 8 plants this year!
