Picked my first sweetcorn if the year today and was rather lovely. I grow summer jewel which seems to grow well in tropical Edinburgh, so would have thought it could have coped with Aberdeenshire. It’s dine well this year -pretty low maintenance and at least 2 cobs a plant.

Sweet corn really is one of the easiest plants to grow: I’ve used it as ground cover this year, and we’re eating it now (Real Seeds’ Special Swiss OP)
I give the plants a shake when I go past, haven’t ever bothered with more technical pollination

I grow Swift F1 and just brush my clasped hand over the 'flower' and touch the tassels of the corn. From experience it's not the actual 'grass seed' looking stuff that does the job but the powdery stuff around it (I may be wrong here). Have no issues with pollination and the ears are ripe all the way to the top.

My only issue is having enough good weather to ripen 3+ cobs per plant that I usually get. Not that I'm bragging and all
