  • Atlantic giant pumpkin wilt

    Hi,

First Post on the forum but the main vine of my atlantic giant which has two fruit growing well has looked like its wilting for the last two days. The two other secondary vines appear fine.

I have seen plenty of posts on wilt but not on specific vines whilst others appear fine. Just wondering if anyone experienced similar before?

Hello and welcome to the vine.

Has the main vine sustained any damage? I know all to well how easy the hollow stems are to damage - especially when trying to guide them to where you want them to go rather than to where they are going.

      Hi Jay-Ell,

Thanks for the quick response, I can't see anything obvious. Is it possible for the other vines to continue to grow if the main vine dies off?

Guessing I just have to wait and see what happens with the fruit.

I had been gradually adjust the fruit position/angle, maybe I was not as gentle as I thought.

Yep, That's how I usually break mine

If the main vine has broken then the secondary vine below the break should survive, but anything after the break may struggle. Have a good look over it next time you're down to see if there's and obvious breaks or crushing or see if you can identify where the change begins.

          Welcome
Depending in where if/where it's broken it could still come back, I too am an expert at breaking vines

            Hi and welcome.
If you find a break you could try sticky tape around the stem. Its surprising how many broken bits can be repaired with a bit of sticky stuff.

Gad I m not alone on the wilting leaves although I had high hoes for the main pumpkin.

As the ilting has got worse I have noticed the vine going yellow. I assume this is not a good sign. I have traced the yellowing upto a point where it has self rooted about four feet from the main plant. Hopefully it spreads no further.

Pinning my hopes on a small fruit on the second vine which I was about to clip off had the wilt not set in.
