  • I think a red tailed bumblebee may be nesting in our compost bin

I have noticed a red tailed bumblebee going in and out of the bottom flap of our compost bin.

It has been backwards and forwards for at least the past 3 days, maybe a lot longer but we have only noticed it since sitting out in the garden.

Does this sound like it may be making a nest in there and if so how long before we can expect to see baby bees escaping from it?

My 12 year old will be mortified if she sees lots coming out as she is scared of flies never mind bees!

I have explained to her that bees are a good thing and why we should value them, hopefully it has sank in. Then again.........
