  • First honey of 2011

Last night we extracted the first honey for this year !!
    Maybe taking some more tomorrow

Mostly OSR but never mind it still tastes really nice on my toast.

Lovely little girls - thank you.

Every little drop will be enjoyed, the only pots I scrape dry are my honey jars! all those long bee journeys to collect tiny amounts - how dare I waste it!

    yum yum yum

    Sounds utterly fantastic!!!!!

Out of interest...I presume the first honey will taste differently from the later honey due to a change in pollen available????

Is Spring honey sweeter/different to summer honey?????

(Urmmmm OSR...stands for what exactly????? )

We did not extract the whole Super - we will end up with about 12-13 lb not much but its the first honey from this hive!

Have the other hive to do tonight, super is heavy so could be about 25-20lb in there - thats if we can spin it all out...Oil seed rape honey sets in the honeycombs in the hive!!!! love/hate with oil seed rape.

With luck we should get another load before the end of the season and still leave the girls plenty!

Well, we extracted the honey from hive one and now have a total of 31 lovely jars of honey!
After that horrid winter I think the girls deserve a huge pat on the back, although each hive has already had a pat and a thank you said to the girls. Just wish they could understand how grateful and humbled they make me feel. All that hard hard work they put in - I will savour every mouthful.
