The swarm I installed in my top bar hive absconded after 4 days and I have been unable to source another swarm since
Thus I was rather tempted and subsequently accepted an offer of a slightly beaten up WBC hive including a small colony for £50
They've got brood at all stages of development on 4 frames (14 x 12) with some stored syrup and a tiny bit of pollen on another couple of frames. They're still drawing out the other frames.
My new bees have been fed sugar syrup for the last month to help build them up. Should I stop feeding now?
I want to ensure the new colony establishes itself well in time for winter but don't want them to get "hooked" on the syrup. There dosen't seem to be much in flower in the field margins except blackberry.
