I have been wondering how to get more bees into my garden.
I garden fully organically - never using any sprays or chemicals. For many years I've free sown nasturtiums and calendula amongst my veggie plot in a glorious colourful jumble but I have noticed that bee numbers have dropped over the last 2/3 years.
I have seen in catalogues that you can buy a small hive with some bees and I was wondering exactly how this works - I'm not sure how long the bees live and they are quite expensive so wouldn't like to think all the bees died and I'd have to buy another one the next year. Also would I have to provide 'care' for my bees?
A friend suggested that perhaps a local bee keeper would like to locate on of their hives in our garden - a sort of 'rent a bee' idea. We have a 120ft long garden and could site the bees at the bottom in a quiet corner. Do you know if this would be possible?
Any advice would be gratefully accepted.
