A classic swarm that. If nobody homes them they will relocate soon, they will be sending out scouts looking for likely new homes and obviously like the look of your chimmney lol. Once they find somewhere to their liking they will be off.

Well thé scouts hâve done their job and suddenly without warning the swarm erupted early in the afternoon and they went back the way they came. There are still quite a few hanging around where the swarm was. The second swarm didn't stay long and some time this afternoon it too went. Must have had better scouts! There aren't any bees hanging around where it was. That one was in a bush and the first one was on the trunk of an old Elder with lots of holes in it. Is it likely that they will take residence or will they realize they have been left behind and go in search of the rest?Gardening requires a lot of water - most of it in the form of perspiration. Well it has happened here now! It must be the season. A huge swarm has gathered over our back gardens and has settled on a tree in the garden opposite me. The local beekeeping group were rung but no answer!
Will have to wait and see now.Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I have just had a call from a local pal who has a swarm hanging nicely from a tree about a half mile away from home, if its still there tonight after work I shall suit up and knock it into a nuc. My mate can close the entrance hole after dark and I will collect in the morning.
If its still there lol.Last edited by pigletwillie; 19-05-2014, 10:29 AM.

We had a mini-swarm on our allotments at weekend whilst we were all ther for a communal work day.
They flew right over me as i was half way down the plot - never seen anything like it - makes you quite in awe of Mother Nature.
