Winter fondant

I've just made about 2kg of fondant ready in case my bees need feeding over winter. I had some syrup left over from feeding a swarm in July, which I froze to keep it good, but now I need room in the freezer for veg, and wondered what I could do with the syrup. So I added more sugar, a dash of glucose, and turned it into fondant.

It was fun to do and much easier than I had been led to believe. If you've ever made fudge, you can make fondant, the process is exactly the same. Only having 2 hives, if I need any more over the winter, I shall make it myself again.

I now feel the urge to make a Christmas cake, just so I can make fondant to ice it with!

I only need a couple of kilos, I'm a one hive girl at present (plus one I intend to buy but haven't paid for yet, though I've played with the colony for the last 2 months, so call it 2 then), and with sugar 46p a kilo that's cheaper than buying B@ko's

39p /kilo at Farmfoods.
I have just finished buying my last batch of 20kg sugar total.. 146.

I would not like to make 25kg of fondant - no fun at all :-)
