  • No sooner said than done...........

I put the word out at the allotments that I was after an old bath to make a wildlife pond with.
I arrived this evening to do a couple of hours much needed maintenance of my plot to find, what looks to be a brand new white fiberglass bath propped against my greenhouse door!
No idea who donated it but no doubt I'll find out at the weekend!

Luckily our allotments are a very 'Happy go lucky' bunch of blokes and the barter system seems to work very well. How much is a bath worth? A dozen cabbage plants? A clump of pot leek seedlings? I don't know, but I'll find some way to pay back the bath donor!

I intend putting a plug in it,digging a hole to accomodate it and part filling one end with sand to form a slope for any small animals to get out. Once that is done, and because it's white, I think I've got some black teram weed suppressant material which I'll stretch over the top before adding the water.
A bit of soil round the edge and a few stones to try and make it look 'Not like a bath' and leave it to it's own devices and see what happens methinks!

I reckon one bath = some loofah plants!
To see a world in a grain of sand
And a heaven in a wild flower

      Hi

I am hoping do do similar, but not quite so big.
I will be putting a pallet over the top, to stop children raiding the wildlife and falling in.

By heck lad, that looks just the job! It also no longer looks like a bath. Well done!

I was just thinking the same thing! Really fab pond, may you be blessed with frogs and newts and tiny things with wings (but not the sort that bite, coz that wouldn't be fun)

Where's the bath? Is it behind the pond?
