Have you all planted Tansy for them?, a great little flower not only does it repel a lot of flies, beetles, and ants, it attracts ladybirds and lacewings. Gotta be good news for protecting future success with these pretty little predators.

Seen quite a few lolling about, and the one that was sleeping in one of the canes I bundled up and tied to the fence, has managed to shuffle it's way backwards and trot off but no ladybird porn as of yet. I tried matchmaking with a couple the other day but they didn't seem keen.

We have hundreds of lady birds on our plots!!!! they have just gone mad! you can count fifty and more in moments! I would have thought the hard winter may have knocked them back a little - not a bit of it - there are so many, Takes me ages to move them when I want to dig!!!!!! (ok I know I am daft, but......I dont want to squish them)Last edited by Headfry; 05-04-2011, 12:26 PM.

Less welcome than the ladybirds are the swarms of fruit flies & pollen beetles in the last 2 days. Horrible things. Skeeters are hanging round the water butts too (ready for my goldfish to eat them, nom nom)All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

Found quite a few yesterday in our garden (well, decked area) & remarked to my neighbour who pointed out the two ladybird houses she had just put in her garden, I wonder if they had spread the word amongst themselves & where all heading for them!. My neighbour also informed me of jiggy activities going on inside them!

Can't say I've ever seen Ladybird love happening, but noticed two ladybirds on my still-yet-to-flower viburnum last night. Wonder if they were looking for a room...A simple dude trying to grow veg. http://haywayne.blogspot.com/
