  • Woo Hoo! The Martins are back!

Just popped up stairs to open the landing window, when as I did I heard the 'squibbling' noise made by house martins! Peeped out the window and they're back - they seem to have been in the nest already!

    - here's the nest in a previous year.

    How cool!
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

      Hi SBP

How long have you had the nest up and what side of the house is it on, as in N,S,E or W?

I'd love to have Housemartins under my eaves....might think about getting a nest or two.
Nestled somewhere in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Good soil, strong winds and 4 Giant Puffballs!

Hi peanut, when we moved here the neighbours had a real martin nest under their eaves. I wanted one too, but its difficult nowadays because its not always muddy at the right times for the birds. So we got a double one put up by our plumber (who had a ladder round cos of the other work he was doing ).

It was four springs ago and they've used it every year, the last two years both sides. It's on the NE facing side (some morning sun is all). We painted (emulsion) the nests outside and back-board before it went up, can't see us getting up a ladder to it.

Lovely for you SBP. I saw them today but haven't seen were they're nesting yet.
