Albino Frogs

Thought you might like to see this link to Froglife where they have photos & a very short film of some albino frog tadpoles in a pond in Wales. They're very rare, I didn't even know they existed & they're watching them to see if any adults emerge & keeping the exact location of the pond secret. Anyone ever seen them?

Hi, i have frogs and newts in my small pond, and although there are some very pale yellow frogs, i have never seen (or heard of ) an albino

Not seen them myself. Our frogs are very variable in colour. Just rescued 2 from the deep tank at the allotments - It's about 6 ft deep and metal, with a hinged grid over it that you lift to get the water. They fall in then can't get out as the level drops. Himself asked if I'd kissed them first, just in case. Sadly, they looked at me a ran away!

Hi & welcome Dave by the way. We have a couple fo frogs in the garden but they are the regular sort of pale green/gold colours. I wouldn't think the white albino ones would stand much chance in the wild.

There are two bricks left out of our dividing garden brick wall to allow migration of the wildlife, the frogs get everywhere, but always make it back to the pond in the spring.

Flum, you should have told him you did kiss them all just in case you got something better than him! I rescued a frog out of a watering can in the garden last year, it was nearly full of water but the poor thing couldn't jump out, I leave a stick in it now so that they have something to grab onto.

I saw a yellow looking toad in my pond today, he was definitely a toad cos he was BIG ...however i think i saw the same toad out of the pond and he looked your normal So my conclusion is EITHER
The sunlight and green tinge of the pond water made him look yellow in water OR i have 2 toads

I will keep watching

I'm sure no-one really wants to know this, but some of the first cloning experiments were done with albino frogs, they ended up with hundreds of them. I assume the reason being that the albinos had a very obvious phenotype and thus it was immediately obvious that the procedure had worked.

Bet they won't last long in the wild though?
I suppose anything can have a genetic error and have no colouring- but I've never seen a picture of albino tadpoles before!!

...and out popped about 6 frogs to sit in the shower!

Don't know about Albino frogs but the Farmer caught an Albino mole the other day.

Walking in Beverley Westwood the other evening the golf course was being watered. The Westwood is mainly a sort of Common Land to which the Pasturemasters have grazing rights, consequently always a mottley selection of cattle on there. They swarmed across the road and from all over when the water sprinkler came on - one actally broke onto the green - hoofprints in the lovely grass!
