  • Tadpoles coming

Well, at least I think they're tadpoles.

A friend of my Mum's is filling in her pond at home and as a result wants to get rid of the tadpoles/frogs she has. Just so happens I know someone who has just created a pond on his plot and is looking for some inhabitants. I am going round to my Mum's later to pick them up.

If they are frogs and not tadpoles, are they likely to return year on year, or is that just if they're "born" there?

Well, the weather was perfect for re-homing tadpoles last night.

Picked up a bucket with about 40-50 tadpoles in it from my Mums last night and drove them down to the plot on the rain.

Gently poured them in and they disappeared into the dark. I noticed that one of the potted plants had fallen into the deepest part of the pond, so took off my watch, spread my legs and delved in. Retrieved said plant, went to stand up straight and my foot stuck in the mud. Subsequently I nearly fell in - it was only my ballerina like balance and poise that saved me!

Hoping to get down to the plot on a brighter day so that I can see my new residents swimming about happily.

Not the best of pictures (my phone is still playing some kind of Jedi mind trick thing), but here are the boys (and hopefully girls) when I picked them up:

If they like it there, Wayne, they'll come back (or lurk nearby!) Our frogs were imported as tadpoles when we came here. I have to warn you however, that you mustn't get too attached or start giving them names. I know you have a tame blackbird there. Our tame female not only fishes for tadpoles, she actually dispatched a young frog and fed the bits to the baby blackies. It's a jungle out there!

        So you've seen my plot!

As long as I have enough to munch my slugs I'll be happy. Fingers crossed that Mildred doesn't take too much of a liking to my taddies.
