  • Found bee/fly/wasp?

I have no idea! anyone know what a young horse fly looks like?
about the size of a small bumble bee
    black and beige tummy
the wings had dark grey/black/brown'ish spot on them!

I cant find a good 'identifying bugs' type web site - anyone know of one I can try?
I have no idea if bee/fly or wasp!

    Many thanks

...and the OH! They give a really nasty bite, which tends to result in an allergic reaction and 'blow up' big and red!

Hmmmmm , nope not a horse fly! phew.

Had these dark blotches on its wings, and a pale beige/black rounded body!

Need a good bug site ????

A bit of help here, but it seems a tricky thing to ID.

Hi folks, thanks for the links...sadly I tried most of those yesterday, still no luck!
Sure it was some kind of large fly.
Had very distinct blotches on its wings and a black and beige body, rounded at far end.
boy did it have an angry buzz! about1/2" long. big eyes!

this is driving me nuts now. I need to know ;-)

Glad to help (was a lucky guess, really).

I LOVE hoverflies. Esp.when people think they're wasps/bees, and are amazed that i can hold one on my hand without being stung !
