The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

        my fav

Hi all, i am blessed with living on a lot of school grounds (School caretaker), and we are building a wildlife garden (with a 20' x 16' dipping pond), at the moment we have a few visitors coming to it (even thought the pond isnt in yet). The reason for me telling you this is because we have a pair of lesser spotted woodpeckers visiting at the moment or did have, we have a family of hedgehogs, loads of rabbits and a deer (type unknown yet). We are right on the borders of scotland/England.
We are collecting vouchers from morrisons to get equipment for our kids gardening club, and we have been given a 6' x 6' greenhouse ex display from homebase, so all in all our wildlife garden has got off to a great start. We hope to have our own flowers and veg started by the beginning of the year (watch this space).
My fav birds has to be the finch family.

        Best wishes one and all.

        Mike

          Well done.
What age group are the kiddies?

            Hi headfry,
the school children are ages 4 to 8, and at the moment we are using recycled car tyres for our herb and fruit garden, and the cadets are up to the age of 17 (I think), I hope to be posting new photos soon as we have a wildlife officer coming into do work shops and getting the children to make bird, bat and hedgehog boxes and also to help build insect hotels and bug logs.

Try and do a quick tot up of all the different types of flowers, animals, and insects now- before the site gets really going.
Then do one in say 6 months and so on!
The kiddies can keep charts and a photos of 'new things' found as the site progresses!

Goldfinches are beautiful little birds. For the last 2 years I have had them regularly visit the garden, all because I found out that they prefer Thistle seeds. So the appropriate feeder and seeds were purchased, since hten they have never left us, had 4 on the feeder today.

Jackdaws, they are so cheeky and we have one that visits our garden which is so tame he eats out of your hand.
