  • New family on the allotment site!

Was told of this new family by another plotholder on our site, 3 plots down from ours, thought you may all like to take a look at them!

Mummy + 6 juveniles in total, looks like next year we may well have an organic slug control solution already in place! 6 Hedgehogs, all living in the plotholders compost heap!

We didnt disturb them, just pulled back the tarp for a few seconds whilst I grabbed the piccy, hence no proper pic!

      That's really sweet Mrs D !!
Lucky you...( bet you feel all maternal towards them now don't you????)

We have a family of shrews living under our tarp on the French compost heap. When we pulled back the cover they just kept running round in circles!! We thought they were mice at first, but they tend to scarper asap- and then we saw their little noses!!!!

I hope your human neighbours will be careful with their bonfires this autumn

Are other plotholders aware? We have posters up at our site reminding us to take care with bonfires & compost turning~just in case!Hope al on your site share your excitement & take good care of them~After all even if they fail to recognise the cute factor like you pointed out an excellent slug control!

Those are absolutely adorable. I was really pleased to see a baby one in my garden a week ago, I hope he's put us on his visiting list. Amazing really that he found us, with an astro turf and paving garden one side and a totally paved one the other.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

Yes!!!! I remember getting home from work (late shift) a couple of years ago, sat in back porch - ciggie & glass of wine in hand. Saw what I thought was a guinea pig under the apple tree. Sneaked out, bent down to grab it and return it to the run and guess what, it had prickles!! Hodgepig, not guineapig.

Just lovely Mrs Dobby. Thanks for the pic. I had them in my last garden. I used to hear them snoring under the bushes.
