Hedgehog

I found a hedgiepig sound asleep under my tree fern (which had fallen over - pot and all in the high winds). I had to move the tree fern, but added extra leaves and fern fronds to hedgie's nest. Hope he stays with us all winter.

we found a hedgehog...

We found one last year, ( in the middle of the day in December) he weighed
just 300grms. We kept him for a few days, he climbed out of his box and curled up by my shoes on the mat!! He was so cute. In the end we took him to a rescue centre because he had hypothermia, and wasnt eating.
(Little boys are more prone to that.)

Last year my mums Springer spaniel Max kept finding and bringing baby hedgehogs into the house. They were all too small to hibernate so my mum ended up with a box of them in her spare room. They got to be a decent weight but caught mange and started losing their spikes so they went off to St Tiggywinkles.

This year Max has brought in one so far. A bit underweight, so once again mum has a hoglet in her spare room. She gave him a furry cushion cover and he crawls inside to go to sleep. He has a very healthy appetite too.

Mum thinks Max wants to eat them but I like to think he's their guardian angel.

My dog had a fight with a hedgehog last winter. The hedgehog won on points.
Sorry thats dreadful but it still makes me laugh.

I trod on one last year as I came out of the front door. Just didnt see it at all as its very dark. I dont think I did any lasting damage (was slimmer then) as after a couple of minutes of rolled up ballness, it uncurled and toddled off on its merry way. I then saw it? again the next evening, so was happy.
