Oh I do like to be beside the sea! Had a lovely weekend in South Hams, lovely beaches and rockpools - my favourites! <smile>



Just got down to the beach on Friday night

On Saturday we had a walk across to Burgh Island from the caravan site at Challaborough. Wow, posh caravan, it had double glazing and central heating! <grin>



We had to walk back through a group of young bullocks 'crowding' the footpath - I was not a happy bunny, bit scared of cattle. <blush>

Went for a walk along Challaborough beach and looked in the rockpools. <smile>

Next day we walked a little of the coastal path (bit up and down - gasps for breath!)...



...and had a last scrabble over rocks peering into pools! <smile>

Had a lovely time, with good sunny weather. Highly recommended.

Oh Manda, you've just made me feel really homesick!! I've lived in East Anglia for over 30 years now and my children all live here with their children so I would never move back, but I grew up in the South Hams and I have really fond memories. Burgh Island is lovely and my mum and dad owned a caravan at Challaborough where we spent many happy holidays.

You just sent me back 30 years to when I went there with my Nan & Grandad. Lovely brown sand, like soft brown sugar.


Burgh Island is where Agatha Christie stayed, and set 2 of her novels. Accessible only by tractor at high tide

A couple more then - just for rustylady & 2-sheds (there was a recentish Poirot set on Burgh Island too) so they can reminisce some more. Its a fab place, I hope we can go on hols there again. We went on one of the 'Sun Holidays' (Okay I know, but we don't read the paper!) it came to £53 for Fri-Mon. Good deal!

Bugger, not urchins, anemones! Sorry everyone 'senior moment'!

The green ones are stunning, I hadn't realised just how 'psychadelic' they look when photographed. They were alive and some of them their tendrils (?) were gently waving about in the shallow water of the rockpools. First time I saw them I didn't realise the red 'blobs on the rocks' were the anenomes. Doh!

Love those psychadelic anemones Manda - bet they looked really cool moving, waving about maaan. Never seen anything like that in the rock pools I've peered into (admittedly few). Just the odd crab and kelp.

Rock pools are one of my favourite things - I can spend hours poking around in them. I've probably fallen into several of those you were looking into this weekend Manda. I lived in Paignton for 10 years and spent many, many happy hours visiting most of the beaches in the area. Great place to grow up - from buckets and spades to teenage beach parties - wonderful!

(Ain't the macro setting great!) Although there was some slippy seaweed about I did manage to stay on my feet and out of the water!
