Wanted to post this seperately so all you worried bird lovers would see this info.
On Wed/Thurs Autumn Watch, Bill Oddie did a piece which explained how birds do disspapear around Aug/Sept time. It pointed out how just before the birds all look "tatty" after a hard summer raising broods of little uns. Well I didnt know this but then they moult. The go into hiding as quite often for a few weeks they cannot fly away from predators. They reappear once their new feathers have grown back.
Hope I have explained this ok - couldnt find any more info on the autumn watch site but if any of you do find anymore then perhaps you could post?
Happy bird watching
