    Wanted to post this seperately so all you worried bird lovers would see this info.

    On Wed/Thurs Autumn Watch, Bill Oddie did a piece which explained how birds do disspapear around Aug/Sept time. It pointed out how just before the birds all look "tatty" after a hard summer raising broods of little uns. Well I didnt know this but then they moult. The go into hiding as quite often for a few weeks they cannot fly away from predators. They reappear once their new feathers have grown back.

    Hope I have explained this ok - couldnt find any more info on the autumn watch site but if any of you do find anymore then perhaps you could post?

    I'm sure we said this on the original thread. My tame blackbird looks really ratty after 2 or 3 broods of young. They need their little holiday!
