  • Smallest British bird?

Wren or Goldcrest? I thought it was Wren but I read yesterday that it is Goldcrest.

I thought it was a wren too but I've never tried weighing either! My son probably has though - he's a trainee bird ringer with the BTO.

Apparently a goldcrest weighs between 5-7g and a wren 8-13g
Don't know about actual size though.

Actually... it's neither. The Firecrest is a rare breeder in Britain, and is smaller than both of those birds, although there is a bit of overlap in individual weights. The Goldcrest is slightly smaller than a wren, so it is the second smallest, and the wren is the third smallest.
