Yesterday I saw more small tortoiseshells while out walking than I saw for the whole of last year. There were dozens flitting about, must all have emerged together. Last year I never saw more than one at a time, and probably only totalled three or four the whole year.
And can anyone identify this butterfly? It was as dark underneath as it was on top. I thought maybe a blue of some sort but they all seem to have pale undersides. It was small like a blue though.
