  • Saw an interesting butterfly in a local county park. Looks like it is a purple hairstreak. It. I’m on up here but apparently on one down south?

    • I spotted an interesting looking fly on my plot.
      I managed to get it identified too but no common name.

        Gosh, how lucky! They are tree-top butterflies and don't often come down to the ground.

        edit: Actually, looking at the white tips on its wings and the way they are held leads me to think it may be a chimney sweeper moth, annie

        • Gosh you might be right, hadnt considered a moth as was during the day but l see that it is seen in daytime. Either way I was quite chuffed to see something different.

            • Bees have discovered their new favourite flower in the garden. Was the nepeta but now crowding around the eryngium big blue. Swear one was having a kip in it the other day. Click image for larger version

                • I spotted an ichneumon wasp searching the tool shed door frame for a woodworm to lay its eggs in with its long non-sting.
