Am a bit of a birder when I get the time away from the plot and work. A bit early for Suffolk still, even though we're not that far from you as the cuckoo flies.
Swifts will be here in a couple of weeks, but hearing a cuckoo is getting increasingly rare, not heard one near me for years. Went to RSPB Lakenheath a couple of times last year to try and see the small group of common cranes there. No luck, but did hear a cuckoo - tracked it down and saw one for the first time ever in the UK. Was a good day as also saw two bittern and several hobby.
Having only just started this thread…OH said yesterday he saw his first swallow whilst out cycling.
I checked yesterday and the martins haven’t yet arrived in the village. They nest under the lintels of the bedroom windows of the shops and poo everywhere!

As for the swifts/swallows/martins, ordinarily they'd be here in a few days or so. They're usually preceded by a few days by the bee-eaters though, and we've had none yet this year.
