Wellie may be too late to this thread to help identify the female peasant, but maybe just in the nick of time for a reassuring hug?
When I was at home 'on a sickie' the other day, I was sat studying in our conservatory and saw a bird on the nutfeeder. Ooh! Rare Bird, I thought. Off I toddle to get the binoccs - only to discover that it was a greenfinch with a white bonce.
Mind you - a couple of years ago in The Forest of Dean we had a real load of disease where Finches are concerned. And not having seen any/many Greenfinches since then, this one could well be a kind of 'sport' of that disease from that time?
If you get my drift, I rest my case sweetheart. You saw what you saw, and only you can bear witness to that.
