When I was a kid, I'd feed my tadpoles with leftover pieces of meat. They especially liked minced beef. The problem was that too much meat made the water go murky.
A few tadpoles seem to take a second year to mature, but frogs also take many years to reach full size.
A baby frog will be 1cm long. They seem to grow about 1cm every year, which gradually slows down, until they're several years old, when they don't grow much.
Yesterday, I found a fairly big (~6cm) frog hiding under some slabs behind my garage. It has been around my garden for the last 2-3years and I suspect that it's about 7 years old.

In a former life I used to go sub aqua diving. once when diving in an iced over quarry I was amazed to see a thermocline. You can actually see where the density of the cold and warmer water meet below the ice. Its like oil and water and can be as clear as a bell below the thermocline but cloudy above. Not sure how deep it was but it was less that 2 feet below the ice which was 6" thich in places.

(Didn't feel much warmer to me though!!)

Thanks Sue for the plastic funnel tip, I'll try that next, as well as adding extra balls.

I don't think you'd get a thermocline in a bath, could be wrong, the metal might upset it,especially if it's above ground and not buried.
