  • A reminder if you have hedges....

    A reminder if you have hedges on your allotment or garden that need attention... that the RSPB request no (major/power-tool) hedge-trimming or coppicing be undertaken between March and late Summer (exact dates vary in different regions, see the website below). This is to protect birds during their breeding season.

    If hedge maintenance is a job on your current To Do List you've only about a-week-to-10-days to get it done!

    we already have nesting birds, but i've lived here 4 years and not once have any of them nested in my hedge ....... i even put little nests in just in case..... i would happily not trim the hedge if there were birdies in it

      Did mine over Christmas! Now have daylight on the lawn!

        Our sparrows have already started "courting", very noisily and our hedge is also home to lots of blackbirds. I had to quote the law at OH to stop him trimming the hedge, but since I got my pruning saw , he's been totally compliant
        Mad Old Bat With Attitude.

        I tried jogging, but I couldn't keep the ice in my glass.
